The Black Asianphile

My dad recently bought a book called EVERYTHING BUT THE BURDEN: What White People Are Taking From Black Culture, and the title alone grabbed my attention. It's a series of essays written about black culture as a whole and where its influences are brought out. One of the essays is titled "The Black Asianphile" written by Latasha Natasha Diggs (I could not make up that name even if I tried), which is about her fascination with the Asian culture.

For those who don't know or remember, I'm actually Half Black and Half Japanese. This article brought out a lot of stereotypes that are portrayed from Asian movies, American culture, and where Asians fit in from the white community and the black community. It was a really good read, as are the other essays in this whole book. I think my friends that are sociology majors might get a kick out of this.

  1. I am definitely going to check this book out. You should also check out "How to be Black" by Baratunde Thurston. I read it awhile ago.
